Christian Discipline: What It Is and How to Build It

Prefer YouTube? Watch it there.

You are not missing a personality trait. You’re a student who was never shown the training. Somewhere along the way most of us decided we’re just not disciplined people, and that sentence is built on a definition of Christian discipline that Scripture never uses. In the Bible, discipline is a capacity, and capacities get built. I clear away the two wrong pictures that usually walk in the door with the word, and then get to the thing that reframes all of it: disciple and discipline are the same word.

What's Covered

  • The two wrong pictures of discipline, and why neither one survives Scripture
  • The two senses of discipline in the Bible (Hebrews 12 and 1 Timothy 4), and why you need both on the table at once
  • How a capacity actually gets built, including the rule nobody tells you: the failure is the rep
  • The keystone discipline underneath prayer, Scripture, and obedience, and how to start it in 5 minutes tomorrow
